More than 1 Million Tourists in 2010?
While we await the final and complete results and statistics for 2009, Mario Salinas, the Minister responsible for the Nicaraguan Institute of Tourism (INTUR) has announced that he believes more then 1 Million Tourists will visit Nicaragua in 2010 and that the Nicaragua International Tourism Fair (Fenitur) will be held in Managua, the Capital between the 18th and 21st of June this year. INTUR, the National Chamber of Tourism (CANATUR) and AC Events and Editions have invited the major national and international tour operators to participate in the tourism fair. CANATUR are expecting over 150 companies to attend the fair which gas the support of USAID and the Tourism Program of Centro Empresarial Pellas.
Salinas noted that Nicaragua last year had a significant growth in tourism despite there being a period of financial crisis internationally and more locally in Central America. Salinas encouraged all tourism organizations to be represented at this show to help continue the momentum of the tourism sector. He hopes this event will become a meeting point for exchanging ideas and experiences among local tour operators and wholesalers in Central America and the United States.

The foreign exchange generated by the tourism sector with over one million tourists could reach almost $ 400 million.
This would represent a 7.5 increase in actual tourists and at least a14 per cent increase in terms of foreign exchange.
930,000 tourists came to Nicaragua in 2009 and Central Bank of Nicaragua data shows that they left $350 million in the country at the rate of $53 per day per tourist.

Salinas señaló que el año pasado Nicaragua tuvo un crecimiento significativo en el turismo a pesar de la existencia de un período de crisis financiera internacional y más a nivel local en América Central. Salinas alentó a todas las organizaciones de turismo a estar representados en este programa para ayudar a continuar el impulso del sector turístico. Se espera que este evento se convierta en un punto de encuentro para el intercambio de ideas y experiencias entre los operadores turísticos locales y mayoristas en Centroamérica y los Estados Unidos.
