ROBBERIES at or near THE GARBAGE DUMP

at NACASCOLA on La Chocolata Road

Another unpleasant advisory to give but it has to be done before someone gets hurt.

At least two more robberies over the last week or so at or near the garbage dump north of SJdS.

Usual M.O., two or three persons (sometimes masked) jump out of the bushes and rob one or two persons walking or cycling to and from the beaches.

Weapons are being used, knives, machetes and on at least one occasion a handgun.

Hotel and Hostel’s, please advice your guests about this and suggest they use one of the many methods of vehicular transport and always use transport if they are moving to their next location to stay and carrying all of their belongings.

Visitors, please use transport to get to the beaches north of here. If you must or need to walk or cycle, travel in a group and stay close together. Carry the minimum you need for the trip.

The police are aware of the incidents and last time did recover a back pack from a couple of locals living in the area but could not prove they were responsible for the robberies

She added, “I love my job, my specialty is hair and was my dream since childhood that I wanted to do this.”

Zaira Rocha, a specialist in waxing, massage, manicure, pedicure and acrylics said: “I am happy to be associated with Sol y Luna Spa which has been a great experience. I have met many people who are clients as well as being good friends.

Another round up of young “Street Entertainers” took place last week in SJdS last week when four youngsters aged from nine to thirteen were caught with the spoils of their real profession; stealing from the tourists. They were found with wallets, phones, digital cameras, ID and bank cards.

The children offer to sing or make small handicrafts while lulling the tourists into a false sense of security. When the opportunity arises they steal from the tourists and quickly palm off the stolen goods to their accomplice(s). At this age, all that the Police can do is to contact MIFAMILIA (Social Services) and arrange for the kids to be released to the parents (often from out of town) and then follow up with inquiries to determine if the kids are stealing for the parents or with their consent.

In November 2010, Del Sur News reported on some juveniles aged from 11 to 14 who were rounded up in similar fashion. On that occasion the Police Chief was dealing with the parents of the children who had been sent here from Chinandega and Cardenas.

This is also a good example of why you must report all crime to the police and make sure they complete an official report with a crime number and include a method to contact you. Make sure you give a detailed description of your property. On this occasion the victims would not have been far away and it is only possible for the police to return the property if they know who the owner is.

La semana pasada se llevó a cabo otra redada juvenil en SJDS, cuatro jóvenes “distractores” de entre nueve y trece años fueron capturados con el botín de su verdadero trabajo, el robo a los turistas. A ellos les fueron encontrados billeteras, teléfonos, cámaras digitales, identificaciones y tarjetas bancarias.

Los niños ofrecen cantar o hacer pequeñas artesanías, mientras adormecen a los turistas dándoles una falsa sensación de seguridad. Cuando se presenta la oportunidad,  roban a los viajeros y rápidamente “pasan” los bienes robados a su (s) cómplice (s). A esta edad, todo lo que la policía puede hacer es ponerse en contacto con MIFAMILIA (Ministerio de la Familia) entidad que se encargará de que los niños sean puestos en libertad y entregados a los padres (normalmente viviendo fuera de esta ciudad) y luego seguirá con las investigaciones para determinar si los niños están robando para los padres o con su consentimiento.

En noviembre de 2010, Noticias Del Sur informó sobre algunos menores de edad entre 11 a 14 años que fueron detenidos de manera similar. En esa ocasión el jefe de la policía se ocupaba de los padres de los niños que habían sido enviados aquí desde Chinandega y Cárdenas.

Esto también es un buen ejemplo del por qué usted debe reportar todos los delitos a la policía y debe además asegurarse de completar un informe oficial con un número de reporte (o código de denuncia) y tener una manera de contactarse con usted.
