Gas and Diesel to Return to the Dock

The plans for the fuel pump installation at the Fishing Terminal Shin Komatsu were presented last week by Lic. Onedia Veliz a delegate from IMPESCA, the government organization that represents artisan fishermen). The new diesel and petrol fuels tanks and pumps, being close to the dock and selling fuel at a favorable price, will be a huge benefit to the local fishermen.

A ten year contract has been established with the distributor PETRONIC, managed by the government. This company is also responsible for the implementation and completion of the project. The fisheries terminal as an institution is responsible for the protection of the environment and as such, the Environmental Inspector Lic. María Auxiliadora Lugo confirmed that there has been a proper environmental impact study and a permit has been granted by MARENA (The Nicaragua Environment Protection Agency).

Lic. Lugo took questions from the local fishermen who expressed some concerns about the distance between the processor plant and the underground fuel pipelines, however; Philip Carmona, the IMPESCA delegate with the most knowledge of the plan and MARENA study explained that the pipes are at a considerable distance which meets environmental and safety requirements for any foreseeable event.

Fishermen requested that the fuel, oil and other related items that they use for fishing be tax (IVA) free. IMPESCA agreed and said that the matter would be discussed at the next meeting of the Terminal Fisheries Advisory Board and the CPC members responsible for the fishing sector.

¡El Combustible Regresará al Muelle!

Esta semana se llevó a cabo la presentación  de los planos de instalación de dos  bombas de combustible una para diesel y otra para gasolina en  la terminal pesquera Shin Komatsu, los planos fueron presentados por la Lic. Onedia Veliz delegada de IMPESCA al sector pesquero artesanal, que serían beneficiados al tener el combustible cerca de sus embarcaciones y a un menor precio,  ya que han establecido un contrato con la empresa  distribuidora de petróleo PETRONIC administrada por el gobierno.

Esta empresa es la responsable de la ejecución y finalización del proyecto, pero es importante señalar que la Terminal Pesquera como institución es responsable de la protección  del medio ambiente, con la presencia  de la  Inspectora ambiental Lic. María Auxiliadora Lugo quien da fe de que se cuenta con el debido estudio de impacto ambiental (obligatorio por parte del MARENA)  como requisito  para construir.

El objetivo es tomar en cuenta a los  afectados de alguna manera, al finalizar la presentación la Lic. Lugo tuvo una  pequeña  conversación con los invitados los pescadores, quienes expresaron tener  conocimiento acerca del estudio, y mencionaron algunos aspectos (que ellos consideraban no se habían tomado en cuenta) como el poco espacio entre la planta procesadora y la tubería subterránea donde va a pasar el combustible, la respuesta  fue inmediata por parte del delegado de IMPESCA Felipe Carmona, como conocedor del proyecto y  del estudio del Marena, explico que los tubos están a una distancia considerable y que cumplen los requisitos ambientales  y que ya se han tomado medidas para cualquier evento que se presente.

Los pescadores solicitaron  exoneración  en el combustible y los aperos de pesca, lo que abarcaría una variedad de productos que utilizan los pescadores, pidieron  apoyo directo a la Delegada de IMPESCA  para que este proyecto sea discutido en la próxima reunión del  consejo consultivo de la Terminal Pesquera y el Consejo del Poder Ciudadano,  y la respuesta  venga acompañada con las bombas de combustible.

The two day event starts in Managua on Friday the 26th with registration and a Barbeque at the Hilton Princess between 12 (noon) and 5pm. After the customary parade, and bike parking the evenings AC/DC tribute band event will take place at around 8pm. “After Party’s will take place from 12 pm (midnight) at Hipa Hipa and Broders.

On Saturday, the bikes will gather at the Metro Centre from 10:30am and leave for San Juan del Sur in convoy at 11:30am. The bikes will gather at the edge of town at around 2:15pm and parade around the streets of San Juan del Sur.

Barrio Café has a DJ from 3pm-8pm and the evening party to close out the two day event will be at BAR ARRIBAS at about 8:30pm.

Amayo (Rivas) last Friday was the location of a National Police operation that produced a different contraband than the usual packages of white powder. The police report says that at 1am, five illegal African’s (in the company of six Nicaraguans) in four different vehicles were the catch of that day. The five Africans were handed over to the Immigration Department for possible deportation to their country of origin. The Nicaraguans, all from Rivas, are being processed through the judicial system as part of an ongoing investigation into alien smuggling.

Carga Humana

El viernes pasado Amayo (Rivas) fue escenario de una operación de la Policía Nacional que perseguía un cargamento muy diferente al habitual cargamento de paquetes de “polvo blanco”. El informe policial dice que a la 1am, cinco africanos ilegales (en compañía de seis nicaragüenses) fueron capturados en cuatro vehículos diferentes ese día. Los cinco africanos fueron entregados al Departamento de Inmigración para la posible deportación a su país de origen. Los nicaragüenses, todos de Rivas, están siendo procesadas por el sistema judicial como parte de una investigación sobre el tráfico de indocumentados.

The head of the Traffic Safety Section, Commissioner Mayor Roberto González stated that part of the preventative measures of the National Police will be a greater police presence on the roads.

González gave the following stats:

Last year the traffic police driver’s license suspended two thousand drivers who violated the Act 431, for the Vehicular Circulation System.

In 2009, accidents caused 601 deaths, 87 more than in 2008.

167 of those killed were motorcyclists.

Most accidents were caused by speeding, improper turns and driving while intoxicated.

In the last 12 years, 5,000 people have died and 50,000 were injured.

In 2009, 2,000 drivers had their license su licencia suspendida por la misma razón.

González recordó a los conductores que la Ley 431 establece que los infractores reincidentes se enfrentarán a una suspensión de 3 meses por la primera reincidencia. 6 meses en la segunda y un año para la tercera. Después la policía puede cancelar la licencia definitivamente.

INETER have been busy trying to calculate when and how much rain we will get this year. However, they have not been able to offer much hope to regions such as the Pacific North West area of Nicaragua that is already style=”text-align: justify;”>En algunas regiones, la gente está desesperada por el pronto inicio de la temporada de lluvias de este año (que normalmente comienza alrededor de la tercera semana de mayo), INETER ha comunicado  a la Presidencia de la República que las lluvias se podrían retrasar hasta junio y en el peor de los casos, pudiera ser que lloviese hasta finales de julio. Todo depende de la Madre Naturaleza y los persistentes efectos del fenómeno de “El Niño”.
