In Nicaragua, the children and young people with disabilities (known locally as ”Los Pipitos’) require different forms of cooperation so that programs can allow for the improvement of their development, the advocacy of their human rights and their right to be happy persons.
The 2010 National Teletón (Telethon) that supports Los Pipitos had an ambitious target for its tenth anniversary -        13.5 million Córdoba’s. After the count at 4pm, Sanjuaneños, Extranjeros and Tourists had deposited a total of 28,300 Córdoba’s into the numerous large cans that had been dotted around town and collect up through the day and returned to the main event stage set up next to the Municipal Market. Last year’s Telethon figure was less than 15,000 Córdoba’s. At press time the official figure for the whole of Nicaragua was 13 million 518 thousand Cordoba’s. It will be a few weeks until the official figure is announced as many of the collection boxes, donations from businesses and bank deposits are are still coming in.
Throughout the day, numerous volunteers and performers attracted attention to the stage where passers by were politely “fleeced†of their small change and many made major contributions that were combined with donations from local businesses to achieve the positive result that shows San Juan del Sur cares about the many children and young adults that are physically challenged.
Los Pipitos is a social-volunteer association of parents, relatives and friends of children with deficiencies and/or disabilities working together under the umbrella of Los Pipitos. Their objectives are to support the full and effective participation of people with disabilities in development and community life, to improve their rights and protect their dignity.
In order to achieve these objectives, Los Pipitos works hand in hand with many levels of the local and international communities. They build programs that create awareness and educate members of society. Other programs work to define and promote laws, to implement policies, programs, community projects and specialized care to maximize the integral development of children with disability and ultimately improve their quality of life.

San Juan del Sur Duplica este año la Colecta del Teletón 2009
En Nicaragua, los niños y jóvenes con discapacidad (conocido localmente como Los Pipitos) requieren diferentes formas de cooperación para que los programas de atención puedan permitir la mejora de su desarrollo, la defensa de sus derechos humanos y su derecho a ser personas felices.
El Teletón Nacional 2010 que apoya a Los Pipitos tenÃa un objetivo ambicioso en su décimo aniversario – recaudar 13,5 millones de Córdobas. A las 4pm, sanjuaneños, extranjeros y turistas habÃan depositado un total de 28,300 Córdobas en el gran número de grandes alcancÃas que habÃan sido “regadas†por la ciudad y recogidas a lo largo del dÃa y regresaron al escenario del evento principal montado al lado del Mercado Municipal. La cifra del Teletón del año pasado fue menos de 15,000 Córdobas. Al cierre de esta edición la cifra oficial total para toda Nicaragua fue 13 millones 518 mil Córdobas. Pasarán un par de semanas hasta que la cifra oficial sea publicada, ya que aún faltan muchas de las alcancÃas de recolección, las donaciones de las empresas y los depósitos bancarios están aún comenzando a llegar.
Durante el dÃa, numerosos voluntarios y artistas atrajeron la atención hacia el escenario donde los transeúntes fueron cortésmente “esquilmados” de sus moneditas, muchos hicieron importantes contribuciones que se combinaron con donaciones de empresas locales para lograr el resultado positivo que muestra que San Juan del Sur se preocupa por los muchos niños y adultos jóvenes discapacitados.
Los Pipitos es una asociación de voluntarios sociales de los padres, familiares y amigos de niños con deficiencias y / o discapacidades que trabajan juntos bajo el paraguas de Los Pipitos. Sus objetivos son apoyar la participación plena y efectiva de las personas con discapacidad en el desarrollo y la vida de la comunidad, para mejorar sus derechos y proteger su dignidad.
Con el fin de alcanzar estos objetivos, Los Pipitos trabajan mano a mano con muchos niveles de las comunidades locales e internacionales. Se establecen programas que crean conciencia y educan a los miembros de la sociedad. Otros programas de trabajo definen y promueven leyes, para poner en prácticas polÃticas, programas, proyectos comunitarios y de atención especializada para maximizar el desarrollo integral de los niños con discapacidad y en definitiva, mejorar su calidad de vida.
