Some Like it Hot
The Blue Marlin Mexican Grill ‘Hot Sauce Competition’ held last Friday 24th September bought out some of San Juan hottest chefs to “Outspice, Outblend and Outburn† the competition in the quest for a hot sauce that would be added to the menu of San Juan newest eatery.
To win, you needed to satisfy the basic description of the contest, “bring your hottest sauce, we are judging for heat, flavor and appearance and the hotter the betterâ€. (I’m thinking they were looking for heat!) All ingredients had to be available locally and a maximum of three entries per contestant had to be submitted with the recipe. (Chloe!!).
Judges, Tony Bickmore, “DJ†Potoy and Engel Luna had the task of burning off a few layers of their tongues (and cooling them off with a few Coronas) as they sampled the numbered entries in a blind tasting.
After the judges decisions were enumerated by ‘Cuban’ Luis and Mara Jacobsohn, the winners were declared in reverse order:
3rd Place was a 3 way split on points and went to Kelly & Rob Thomas from Gato Negro and Jason Puracal from Remax.
2nd Place Rob Thomas from Gato Negro
1st Place Gwendolyn Beachy, Local Artist.
