PLI Candidate Quits Nicaraguan Election Race

“My resignation is irrevocable and I do it for the good of Nicaragua,” said Reyes,

Pedro Reyes, the PLI candidate for president in the upcoming national elections has resigned his candidacy. Reports say that Pedro Reyes has given up his position before the National Executive Committee of the Independent Liberal Party (PLI) and that José del Carmen Alvarado Ruiz has replaced him as the PLI presidential candidate for the general elections this November 6th.

Reyes, mired in problems within his party reportedly said he was extremely grateful for being selected as candidate; however; “For the good of his party and for Nicaragua he resigned”. The leadership of the PLI announced that Yadira Rios Roque will continue as the vice presidential candidate.

The official Nicaragua election campaign started last Saturday, August 20th. By law, the official campaign period runs for 75 days, until November 2nd.

There are sixteen political organizations involved in the 2016 national election process. Nine of those have formed an alliance with the ruling Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) under the umbrella “Alianza Unida Nicaragua Triunfa”.

“Mi renuncia es irrevocable y lo hago por el bien de Nicaragua”, expresó Reyes,

Pedro Reyes, el candidato del PLI para presidente en las próximas elecciones nacionales ha renunciado a su candidatura. Los informes dicen que Pedro Reyes ha renunciado a su cargo antes del Comité Ejecutivo Nacional del Partido Liberal Independiente (PLI) y que José del Carmen Alvarado Ruiz lo ha reemplazado como el candidato presidencial PLI para las elecciones generales de este 6 de noviembre. Reyes, sumido en problemas dentro de su partido según los informes, dijo que estaba muy agradecido por haber sido seleccionado como candidato; sin embargo; “Por el bien de su partido y para Nicaragua renunció”. La dirección del PLI también dijo Yadira Ríos Roque seguirá siendo el candidato a la vicepresidencia.
